Minister orders probe into kidnap of women

Taking a serious note over the kidnapping of four women from Ujwala Rescue Home at Ramanthapur in the city by unidentified persons, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Women Welfare and Child Development Sunitha Lakshma Reddy today ordered a probe into the incident. The Minister directed the City Police and the Chief Secretary Women and Child Welfare Department to probe into the incident and submit a report to her. Earlier in the day, four women were abducted allegedly by a eight-member gang from Mumbai by attacking the security guards with iron rods and lethal weapons. All the abducted women hailed from Maharashtra and West Bengal States.

The police have rescued the women from Kukatpally nine months back and kept them in the Rescue Home following directions from the court. Tension also prevailed in the Ramanthapur area after the local residents barged into the Rescue Home demanding that it be shifted from their area. They suspected the management of Rescue Home was responsible for flesh trade and supplying women to brothel houses in the city. Following mild tension, the police deployed additional forces at Ramanthapur to prevent untoward incidents, police said. UNI
