Health Minister Dr C Lakshma Reddy today ordered an inquiry into deaths of two pregnant women at Sulan Bazaar maternity center. The minister said the State government will take serious action against those who caused the deaths of the women due to negligence to offer better services.
Lakshma Reddy directed Director of Medical Education Ramani to inquire into the deaths and submit a detailed report immediately. The minister expressed sympathies to the family members of those who died and promised to take serious action for those involved in the row. Two women died on April 20 during the process of delivery are Sharada (22) of Arunnagar and Jayamma (22) of Mahabubnagar.
However, the hospital superintendent Dr Shailaja said there was no negligence that led to the deaths. Out of 19 caesarean operations done in the hospital, only two women died unfortunately, she said. Another woman Sujatha (22) of Hayathnagar was shifted to Osmania Hospital after delivery for complications, she said.
On the directive of the Minister, Ramanai instructed Prof Anupama of Gandhi Hospital to conduct an inquiry and submit a report. (NSS)
