Minister assures preventive steps to check Swine Flu

Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy said all the required steps were being taken by the State Government to create awareness among the people regarding the preventive measures to combat Swine Flu and other seasonal diseases in the State.

 

Replying to a question in this regard in the Assembly today, the Health Minister said in the wake of Swine Flu cases being reported in the State, especially in the city, the government has initiated special measures in Gandhi and NIMS Hospitals by creating special wards for treating patients affected. Even special equipment and other medical kits needed for combating Swine Flu was acquired and made available in the hospitals, he said.

To a question by Congress member J Geetha Reddy, G. Chinna Reddy and others, the Health Minister replied in affirmative that during January 2017 around 50 Swine Flu cases were registered in various hospitals in the city and of which five patients had lost their lives. He also admitted that seasonal cases of influenza are also being reported.

As regards the preventive measures being taken up by the government , the Health Minister said free diagnosis and medicines were being provided, isolation wards have been created in hospitals besides strengthening critical care facilities, sufficient quantities of medicines and diagnostic kits were being made available, vaccination given to hospital and field staff and technicians.(NSS)
