Minister asks TDP to explain why GO 69 was issued

Andhra Pradesh Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathi today asked the TDP to explain to the people of the state why it issued GO.69 in 1996, restricting the release of water from the Nagarjunasagar project to the Krishna Delta. Addressing a press conference here today, he said referring the GO.69, some Telangana leaders approached court, pleading to stop release of water to Krishna delta from Nagarjuna Sagar dam. The Minister explained that during the regime of Telugu Desam party, the Government passed Government Order No.69, imposing ban on release of water from Sagar dam, if the water level falls below 510 Ft. and that proved to be a detrimental to the Krishna delta farmers now.

The Minister made it clear that an affidavit was already filed in the High Court, pleading to vacate the stay on the release of water to the Krishna delta. ‘If the High court refuses to vacate the stay, the government will approach the Apex court’ he informed. Dismissing the TDP’s allegation that the government had taken a long time to file counter affidavit in the High Court, he said the government was taking legal exports opinion and moreover the court had given four weeks time to go to high court. Admitting that there was inordinate delay in completing the Pulichintala project, across the river Krishna, he assured that steps would be taken to complete the project by mounting pressure on the contractor.

Mr Parthasarthi informed that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy appealed Karnatka Chief Minister Jagadish shattar to release water from the Almitty dam at least for drink water purpose.

The Minister alleged that the TDP leaders were misleading people and trying to earn political mileage on the irrigation water issue. UNI
