Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathi here today appealed to the agitating teachers, working in the high schools run by the municipal corporation who were observing relay hunger strike demanding salaries to be paid from government exchequer instead of JNNURM funds, to call off their agitation keeping in mind the coming class ten examinations. The Minister, who visited their camp at Municipal Corporation Office where the teachers had been observing relay hunger strike for the last two weeks, assured to bring their problems to the notice of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and get it solved.
He said the salaries of 1100 teachers, working in the corporation run high schools in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, were being paid from the JNNURM funds whereas other teachers, were being paid from the exchequer. He promised the teachers that he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and officials concerned and get the problem solved. Explaining their problems, Teachers Joint Action Committee Convener M Appa Rao told the Minister that their salaries were not being paid on time as funds were coming from JNNURM.
He urged the Minister to ensure their salaries were paid from government exchequer like other teachers. UNI
