Minister Allays Fears Over Adhar Cards Deadline

Civil Supplies Minister D. Sridhar Babu today asked the citizens of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts not to worry about the delay in issuance of Adhar cards.

Speaking to the media after holding a high-level review meeting on the issue in the Secretariat on Tuesday, Sridhar Babu said the Centre-sponsored Cash Transfer Scheme would be implemented only after the process of issuance of Adhar cards was completed. He also said Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy reportedly told him that there was the possibility of the Centre extending the February 15 deadline on Adhar cards by two months. He said the extension of the deadline was a mere formality and an official communication in this regard was expected any moment.

Sridhar Babu said the decision to extending Adhar card deadline was delayed as the Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily was away from New Delhi. Assuring that there would be no hardships to the LPG consumers, Sridhar Babu said the Centre’s goal was to provide subsidies to the eligible poor families. (NSS)
