Mini IPL overseas to be held in September, says BCCI chief

Dharamsala : The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Friday announced that it will explore the option of hosting a mini Indian Premier League overseas every September, starting this year.

“In the month of September, the BCCI is willing to host a mini IPL or IPL overseas with all the eight teams participating in a shorter format in less than two-week window,” said BCCI president Anurag Thakur at the end of the board’s first Annual conclave in Dharamsala on Friday.

The BCCI chief said that the final dates and format will be announced after deliberating various issues in due course.

Among other key decisions taken, the working committee of the BCCI approved the technical committee’s recommendation to hold Ranji Trophy matches at neutral venues in addition to having a separate marketing budget in the coming season to popularize Test cricket.

It also decided to start a new T20 league in place of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and restrict the participation of players in Under-19 World Cups. (ANI)
