Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen senior leader and ex-Corporator Meraj Mohammed joined the Congress party here on Saturday.
Meraj Mohammed was elected on MIM ticket in 2009 GHMC elections from Fateh Darwaza division of Old City. He had also served as the member of GHMC Standing Committee till recently. He joined the Congress party in the presence of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, GHCC Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail and senior leader Vijay Naidu.
Speaking on the occasion, Meraj Mohammed said that only Congress party was capable of fighting against the communal forces at the national level. He said that rising tide of communalism needs to be stopped and therefore, all sections of the society must strengthen the Congress party at all levels.
Welcoming Meraj Mohammed into the party, Uttam Kumar Reddy and Shabbir Ali hoped that his entry into the Congress would help in waging a strong war against communal forces and their open and secret allies.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Sohail said that the Congress party was finalising its GHMC election campaign schedule for the Old City and it would be announced soon. (INN)
