MIM stages walkout from BAC meeting

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen on Monday staged a walkout from the meeting of Assembly’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC) in protest against the attitude of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar.

Speaking to media persons at Assembly’s media point, MIM floor leader Akbarudin Owaisi alleged that his party was not given an opportunity to express its views on the amendments that it proposed on Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill. He accused the Speaker of resorting to undemocratic practices. The Speaker has suddenly announced the completion of debate on the Bill and denied the members an opportunity to speak on the resolution moved by the Chief Minister seeking rejection of the Bill.

Akbar Owaisi said that when a resolution gets introduced in the House, all parties get an opportunity to express their views on it. He said although the MIM MLAs were on their feet and requested for the opportunity to speak, the Speaker rejected their pleas and passed the resolution with a voice vote. He said that the Speaker’s action was undemocratic and unconstitutional. He also condemned the Chief Minister for claiming that the resolution was passed unanimously. He said resolutions passed through voice vote could not be called unanimous.

The MIM leader said that there was no clarity on the status of amendments sought by the members. He said that the MIM was strongly opposed to proposal of giving law and order powers of Hyderabad to the Governor after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. He said that situation would turn worse if people like Amit Shah, a close aide of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, are made the Governor of Andhra-Telangana in case BJP comes to power. He said that the minorities would not be safe if a person with the communal person is made the Governor while enjoying the law and order powers in a city like Hyderabad. (INN)
