The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Monday named MIM MLA from Yakutpura Mumtaz Ahmed Khan among the defaulters who have not paid the Property Tax for year.

According to the GHMC, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan owes a whopping Rs 20,98,341 towards Property Tax to the corporation and he figures in the list of top 100 defaulters.

The Circle Number 10, which includes the posh localities of Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and other highly commercial areas have most of the oldest defaulters of property tax.

While some of them have approached courts, a few others have filed petitions, but most of the owners of the properties are simply not interested to pay property tax, the GHMC said in a statement on Tuesday.

In Jubilee Hills, Jubilee Hills Land Mark Projects Ltd has defaulted with Rs.2,81,26,111 and A L Manoharam with Rs.63,50,272 for more than two years.

Amongst the most unlikely defaulters are Kameneni Hospital (Rs 71,11,549), A P Film Development (Rs 55,51,576), Hyderabad Stock Exchange (Rs 52,08,272), Principal Hyderabad Public School (Rs 20,47,792), St Joseph Edu.Society (Rs 16,35,875), Nawab Mir Barkat Ali Khan Mukram Jah Bahadur (Rs 28,33,251), United News of India (Rs 18,78,255) and Secretary Exibition Society (Rs 28,81,354).

According to the officials, most of the defaulters are from Circle 10, which is clustered with most of the commercial establishments in the City. “GHMC is pursuing the matter with the defaulters, but several of them have approached courts, while some have filed petitions”, says Chief Valuation Officer, S Pankaja.

With around Rs 275 crore pending for years, the Commissioner M T Krishna Babu recently took decision to involve Higher officials directly to pursue to matter. For instance, Southern Realtors and Towers (P) Ltd would be pursued by AC (Electrical) and Hyderabad Bottling Co., which is under Court Case would be pursued by AC (Works). (INN)
