Hyderbad, April 12: It was MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi’s heated argument with Younus bin Omer Yafai and Esa bin Younus Yafai on April 13 over an 18-acre patta land near Gurram Cheruvu on Balapur Road that sowed the seeds of bitter animosity between them which later led to the attack on the MLA.
In his confession before the investigators, Mohammed bin Omer Yafai alias Mohammed Pahelwan, the prime accused in the attack on Akbaruddin, said that when Akbaruddin visited Gurram Cheruvu along with Hyderabad collector Natarajan Gulzar, he incidentally met Younus bn Omer Yafai and Esa bin Younus Yafai, relatives of Pahelwan.
“When Akbaruddin showed the collector some lands in Gurram Cheruvu as encroached, my bother Younus and his son Esa took objection. They asked Akbaruddin to show the lands which were really encroached and not our patta lands,’’ Pahelwan told the police. But Akbaruddin allegedly warned Younus and Esa: “Tum logonko sukunse nahi rahne doonga.’’ The duo then retorted: “Dekhenge kaun sukunse nahi rahte’’.
Police said the argument made the frustrated Pahelwan family decide to give a fitting reply to Akbaruddin as the rivalry reached the boiling point. On April 14 (the next day after the argument), all the important family members – Mohammed Pahalwan, Hussain bin Omer Yafai, Younus bin Omer Yafai, Esa bin Younus Yafai, Yahiya bin Younus Yafai, Faisal bin Ahmed Yafai, Fazal bin Ahmed Yafai, Mohammed Saleh bin Wahlan – assembled at Omer Function Hall in Chandrayangutta. After a prolonged discussion on the means of safeguarding the properties in their possession they decided to eliminate Akbaruddin. Their decision was backed by the other accused, police said.
On April 30, when Akbaruddin visited Barkas to oversee some developmental works, Ibrahim, one of the accused, perceived that Akbaruddin made some gestures at them, prompting them to attack him.
“This incident has not only added to annoyance of the accused family but also provided them an opportunity to execute the plan to eliminate Akbaruddin.
On learning of Akbaruddin’s visit to the area, the accused quickly organised themselves into a group whom Pahelwan egged on to launch the murderous attack,’’ police added.
