The All India MIM Party vehemently opposed any move by the UPA Government to make Hyderabad a joint capital or Union Territory if bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh became inevitable.
This was made amply clear by AIMIM Party’s President and Hyderabad Lok Sabha member, Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday while presenting the views of his party before the Group of Ministers (GoM), which began its exercise of meeting all the political parties in the state as part of the process in the formation of Telangana state.
The members of the GoM present were Sushil Kumar Shinde, Veerappa Moily, Jairam Ramesh and A.K. Antony, who was attending the GoM meeting for the first time. The head of Special Task Force K. Vijayakumar, an ex-IPS officer from Tamilnadu was also present.
Reiterating MIM’s inherent opposition to bifurcate the state, Owaisi pointed out that if the division of the state was inevitable then his party would prefer the formation of Rayala-Telangana state by merging Anathapur and and Kurnool district with the ten districts of Telangana.
Briefing the media after his meeting with the GoM, Owaisi said thatany move to make Hyderabad as a common capital or even a UT was not acceptable to his party. He felt that only Khairatabad Division should be made as a working capital of both Telangana and residuary Andhra states. In this context he lashed out at Seemandhra Union Ministers for mounting pressure to make Hyderabad a joint capital or UT.
The MIM President also ridiculed the talk of bringing law and order subject under the purview of the central government. These ministers have lack any knowledge about the rules and constitution. Law and Order is a state subject and it has to be with the Telangana state only, he stressed.
Referring to the apprehensions and threat perceptions of Seemandhra people residing in Hyderabad, Owaisi said that there was no need for such concerns which were a bogey being raised by the Union Ministers without any basis and only for selfish ends. Pointing out that sensitive and crucial research units like DRDL and DMRL were in Hyderabad and functioning smoothly, there was no need for Seemandhra people to fear about their lives or properties. He said that in the event of providing any special protection to the Seemanmdhra people, then the same steps should be taken for the safety of Muslims and Christians.
The MIM President also stressed the need for bifurcating the High Court to enable both the states to have their own courts. He also wanted retention of Legislative Council in Telangana. He also disclosed that both A.K. Antony and Jairam Ramesh had stoutly denied about submitting any reports to the GoM as was being speculated in the media. (NSS)
