MIM engineered temple controversy to get Mahavir Hospital lands: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen of resorting to communal blackmailing by engineering the Bhagylakshmi Temple controversy to get possession of land presently housing the Mahavir Hospital at AC Guards.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP State President G Kishan Reddy alleged that the MIM was desperately trying to get the possession of three-acre land for Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS) being run by the Owaisi family. The 30-year-old lease period of Mahavir Hospital came to an end in March 2007 and for political reasons it was not extended further. The MIM leaders have been pressuring the Chief Minister to handover the land Deccan Medical College.

Kishan Reddy alleged that all the files relating to Mahavir Hospital land were cleared in favour of MIM leaders by the Revenue Department, GHMC and other departments in 48 hours. However, for some reasons, Kiran Kumar Reddy did not clear the file from his office. Angered by this move, the BJP leader alleged that the MIM has engineering communal tension in the Old City by raising the issue of Bhagyalakshmi Temple.

The BJP leader said that the MIM has always survived on communal blackmailing. It got back Darulsalaam properties in 1969 and approval for a medical and engineering college in 1984 by triggering communal violence. He said that the Bhagyalakshmi Temple controversy was the latest in the MIM series. He pointed out that MIM never objected to the decoration or renovation of temple on the occasions of different festivals in the past. However, this time, the MIM not only tried to engineer communal riots, but also misled the High Court.

Kishan Reddy said that it was wrong on the part of the MIM to blame the BJP for its differences with the Chief Minister of Congress party. He said that the BJP would support the No Confidence Motion, if moved by other parties, as it considers Congress as the most corrupt party.

The BJP leader alleged that MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has used the temple issue to cover up the hidden agenda he had with the Chief Minister.

BJP National Secretary Dr K Laxman, former union minister Bandaru Dattatreyya and former MLA N Indrasena Reddy were also present during the press conference.
