MIM Demanding 25 Seats From Jagan Party?

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, which had been fighting the elections all alone in Hyderabad though with a secret understanding with the Congress party all these years, is now said to be planning to forge an alliance with YSR Congress party in the next assembly elections.

So far, the MIM has been confined to just Old City of Hyderabad with seven seats. Now, it wants to expand its network to different parts of the state, particularly in Telangana and Rayalaseema districts where there is a sizeable Muslim population. However, it does not have much cadre base outside Hyderabad. If it wants to strengthen its base, it has to have an alliance with YSR Congress party, since it has already parted ways with the Telugu Desam Party 13 years ago and the Congress party recently.

Sources said during the preliminary discussions with leaders of YSR Congress party, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi is learnt to have demanded allotment of 25 seats as part of the alliance, including those being represented by the MIM in Hyderabad. It means, the MIM wants 18 seats outside Hyderabad, mostly in Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Medak, Kadapa, Kurnool and Anantapur districts. In all the remaining districts, the MIM would support the YSR Congress party and ensure that it would get the Muslim support.

So far, there has been no response from Jagan party side, but it is highly unlikely that it would concede so many seats to the MIM since the contest is going to be too close in the next elections.
