Khaja Bilal Ahmed, the MIM corporator from Rein Bazaar division, surrendered on Thursday before the 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Nampally, in connection with five communal cases that were registered against him in November last year. As the court sent him to 14-day judicial remand he was immediately shifted to Cherlapally jail.
Bilal Ahmed was named as the accused number one in cases that
were reported during the dispute that erupted over the reported expansion of the Bhagyalakshmi temple abutting Charminar.
TheSpecial Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing the communal cases had showed him as an absconding accused. Police commissioner Anurag Sharma had reportedly asked his senior aides in a circular to dig up all the cases against MIM leaders.
Following this circular the corporator decided to surrender. Police sources said that they are expecting the other corporators against whom communal cases were registered in November last would also surrender soon.
