Milton book bound in murderer’s skin

London, April 05: The Westcountry Studies Library is to display a book of poems by British author John Milton, which is bound in the skin of a hanged murderer.

The 19th-century book features the skin of George Cudmore who was found guilty of murder, The Inquisitr reported.

After he was killed, Cudmore’s body was sent to the Devon and Exeter Hospital where a piece of his skin was given to a bookseller called Mr. W. Clifford.

The Exeter bookseller used the skin to bind the 1852 edition book which contains poetry pieces from Milton’s masterpiece Paradise Lost.

The book was recently donated to the Westcountry Studies Library and will be showcased as part of its crime and punishment exhibition.

Milton was an English poet, polemicist, and civil servant for the Commonwealth of England best-known for his epic poem Paradise Lost.

English writer and biographer William Hayley described Milton as the “greatest English author.”
