Hyderabad, February 28: The coming summer could see a dip in milk productivity and this could affect the already spiralling milk prices.
We might see a 20 to 30 per cent shortage in milk supply in summer, said K. Bhaskar Reddy, MD, Creamline Dairy Products Limited, producers of the popular Jersey brand of milk. Andhra Pradesh consumes about 35 lakh litres of milk everyday. This shortage could result in a slight price rise, said Mr. Reddy pegging it Re.1. “If the farmer increases the price by a rupee, we have to transfer it to consumers.”
Milk procurement accounts for as much as 70 per cent of the price.
