Milk adulteration menace

Mixing water in the milk has become an age-old tactic. Now it has become part of the trade. However the milkmen are not confined to this only, but they are mixing synthetic chemicals in the milk as well. Not only the milk supplied in packets but the milk sold on dairy farms is also reportedly adulterated. On the condition of anonymity a milkman working in a dairy farm revealed that after taking out milk the cream and butter is extracted and powder is mixed to make the milk thick.

Warana and other powders are available in the market at around Rs 180 per packet. Thus 8 to 10 litre white liquid is prepared with one kg of powder. This liquid is mixed with the milk. Apart from this the owners of some dairy farms buy less expensive milk from private companies and mix it with the milk of their dairy farms and sell on high rate.

Sources also revealed that milk sellers also inject the cows and buffalos with Oxytocin to make them produce more milk. Doctors say that milk produced by oxytocin treated cows is harmful to human health. Khuwa is also mixed with flour and mustard oil with soybean oil.
