Imphal, April 04:Unidentified militants hurled a powerful grenade at the house of a former top militant leader in Imphal East district of Manipur but it failed to explode, official sources said.
Sources today said the grenade was thrown at the house last evening of M I Khan, former chairman of the militant outfit People’s United Liberation Front (PULF), at Keirao area in the district.
Khan, who was released recently after serving in the jail under National Security Act (NSA), had said that he had given up the life of a militant and would contest the forthcoming Manipur assembly polls in February next year.
He had also appealed to militants to give up the live of violence and join national mainstream to bring development in the state.
Official sources said the grenade was later defused by bomb experts.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
