Bangkok, October 06: Militants attacked two highway shops in Thailand’s troubled southern border province of Narathiwat this afternoon, killing a policeman and injuring twelve people.
The militants riding motorcycles opened fire on one of the shops in Sungai Kolok district of Narathiwat killing the policeman and then threw a bomb on the second shop.
Meanwhile, another ten people were injured elsewhere in Sungai Kolok when a bomb exploded in front of a hotel in the district. About 4,000 people have been killed in separatist violence in the southern Thai provinces of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani since early 2004.
