Srinagar, April 06:A separatist guerrilla, blamed for a ruling National Conference activist’s murder, was killed Tuesday in a gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir that also left a police officer and a soldier dead.
A police officer told IANS the gunfight took place in Dadsara (Tral) village of Pulwama district, 30 km from Srinagar, after militants hiding in a house fired on security forces after being asked to surrender.
A sub-inspector of police and a soldier from the Rashtriya Rifles were killed in the initial firing by the militants, the officer said.
The dead militant was identified as Sajjad, a commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen. He was involved in the murder of National Conference activist Gulam Mohiuddin Bhat in nearby Pinglish village last week, police said.
The operation in the village was still on although the gunfight had ended.
