Human rights abuses in the Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir state are an ongoing issue. The abuses range from mass killings forced disappearances, torture, rape and sexual abuse to political repression.
Standing out beating all the odds is really a great job. Hats off to Umar Nisar who being living in a militant hotbed never stop working on his dreams. Militant violence has not been a hindrance to this whiz-kid who is no less than a genius at such a young age.
Umar Nisar, a class X student from Tral a place which witnesses frequent shutdowns and violence gain popularity when he developed a worldwide radio system, a first in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Dailyhunt report, Umar who went to a Government High School in Midoora, Tral, has never seen computer but his zeal to learn computer never allow him to look at violence and shutdown.
Umar who has also keen interest in Mass Media And Journalism learn Computer Programming and web designing besides academics. Umar is a music buff and that was his inspiration behind setting up ‘Pannun FM International’ a worldwide radio system that works on the internet.
Tral invariably experiences poor and low frequencies of CBS and Radio. “I worked on the idea of internet radio which is not dependent on frequency. It was not an easy job to do, it took me eight months to complete it,” he said.
On 18 Aug last year, Umar Nisar registered his android application on Play Store. Pannun FM International which can be downloaded from Play Store also be accessed from from www.pannunfm.in.
“I have developed this app mainly to promote Kashmiri Culture and language which is our mother tongue and is slowly fading away, even in Kashmir,” Umer says. The music that Umar plays on his Radio App is mostly from Bollywood and Kashmiri genres. “I will develop more benifical projects for my Valley Kashmir,” Umar Said.
Umar comes from a humble background where his father works hard as a tractor driver to make ends meet. It is with sheer grit and determination that Umar is pursuing his dream even if with limited resources.
What is even more exciting is that Umar has turned his application into an alternative media in his locality. “My friend had bagged the first position in the painting competition at our school. I recorded his interview and then played it on FM and everyone loved it.” His latest app is in the finishing stages and is meant exclusively to help the students in Kashmir.
