Militancy in J&K: One militant from each village since 2010

New Delhi: Youths in J&K province that have turned to militancy in the past 10 years have surged ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen with as many as 467 local youths from 354 villages choosing this path.

Of these 335 youths come from 247 villages in the South Kashmir. A report from security agencies reveals that the spread of militancy across the state was brought down in the year 2010. Indian Express reported.

Apart from youths recruited from almost every village in Kashmir valley, other youths from Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi and Ramban in the Chenab valley of Jammu province have also joined militancy.

The Shopian district in South Kashmir tops the list says the reports. It revealed as many as 95 youths from nearly 70 villages have joined militancy since 2010. 7 youths from the Heff Zainpora have taken up arms while four militants each have come up from Pahlipora keller, Zainpora, and Padderpora also producing three militants each from three other villages.

The Pulwama district statistics revealed as many as 88 militants from 60 villages have joined militancy over the past eight years. Kakpora and Lelhar villages have produced six youths each while other villages like Gundbagh and five others have produced three and two militants respectively.

Kulgam have produced an overall 64 militants from 49 villages of which seven come from Redwani Bala, five from Hawoora, and three from Yamrach.

In Awantipra as many as 54 youths from 41 villages have joined militancy.

Five youths each from Dadsara and Tral village and four from Noorpora village have joined militancy.

In Anantnag, 34 youths from 27 villages with six from Arwani, two each from two other villages have joined.

The report also revealed 88 youths from 68 villages in the North Kashmir districts have joined militancy since 2010.

Baramulla district has seen 33 youths from 28 villages with 4 from Palhalan village, 2 each from Khanpora have joined.

Bandipore district and Sopore District saw 17 local youths from 13 villages and 29 youths from 18 villages joining the militancy.

In Kupwara and Handwara a single youth from the five villages and four villages in the areas have joined militancy.

Looking at figures from Central Kashmir, Districts of Budgam and Srinagar saw 22 youths from as many as 20 villages choosing militancy with Danderbal district showing no sign of militancy.

The Budgam district and Srinagar has seen 10 and 12 youths; two from Pakharpora village, one each from another 8 villages and 2 from New Theed with one each from remaining 10 villages join militancy.

In the Chenab valley, 22 youths from 19 villages have become militants since 2010.
