Mild tension prevailed in OU

Hyderabd, October 01: Mild tension prevailed in Osmania University on Friday with students staging a dharna in front of OU police station from 12 noon to 4 pm.

The students were demanding the release of OUJAC leaders who were arrested during Sakala Janula Samme that has now entered its third week. Students also demanded police officials to open all the blocked gates and entrances to the campus.

Trouble started at 11.30 am when students took out a rally from Osmania University Arts College to OU police station shouting slogans in support of Telangana. While the police officials stopped them at the barricade set up adjacent to B hostel, the students indulged in mild stone pelting which lasted for about 20 minutes. The students also staged a protest near Arts College asking the OU administration to postpone all the examinations that are scheduled for October.

In a press meet that was held at Arts College on Friday, student leaders of the university said that they will support the proposed three-day rail roko from October 9. “We are not planning to call off the rail roko as was planned by T-JAC. It will be indefinite,” said student leaders. Students from Telangana and Kakatiya universities are expected to support the rail roko, the students said.

Meanwhile, OU students JAC on Friday evening came down heavily on the state government as it announced the appointment of the new Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) director. Students condemned the appointment of Dharma Rakshak, from Nellore as the new director.

“There were two efficient candidates from Telangana region who had applied for the post. The government even this time refused to appoint a person from Telangana and this is unfair,” said M Krishank, spokesperson, OU. Nims has never had a director who hails from Telangana so far, students pointed out.
