Mid-day meal scheme: Work plans for 27 states approved

New Delhi, May 17: The annual work plans of the mid-day meal scheme for 27 states and Union Territories have been approved by Programme Approval Board (PAB).

The PAB, headed by the secretary of school education and literacy, also reviewed the performance of the states in the last fiscal relating to the scheme and decided to release over Rs 2267 crore, a release said today.

“During the first month of financial year 2010 that is April 2010, Rs 2267.06 crore has been released to the states.

This amounts to 24 per cent of the total budget estimates of Rs 9,440 crore for 2010-11,” it said.

On the intervention of the Human Resource Development Ministry, the Food Corporation of India has asked its regional offices to release the food grains for the first quarter.

The ministry has also written to all states, advising them to lift food grains from FCI.
