Mid-day meal poisoned to win contract

Kudnala, August 01: A case of poison in the mid-day meal has surfaced in a primary school in Kudnala village of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district.

The fight between two contractors to get the award of mid-day meal virtually put the lives of 250 children to grave risk.

Luckily, the matter came to light before the poisonous food could be served to the children. Police have registered a case against three people.

According to the sources the vice president of district panchayat, along with his two colleagues reached the primary school to examine the mid-day meal. The team had a verbal fight with the existing contractor Punne Bai. Upset by the fight , Punne Bai locked the kitchen and went home.

At the time of lunch Principal of the school phoned her. After her arrival when she opened the lid of pulses, the gushing gas made her unconscious.

According to Punne Bai a man named Ram Chandra who accompanied the district panchayat’s vice-president, wanted to grab the contract of mid-day meal and must have poisoned the food.

It is suspected that dangerous pesticide were added in the food.

The administration is investigating the case before reaching to any conclusion.

Given the seriousness of the matter the state government spokesman, Narottam Mishra, has assured strict action in this case.
