Mid-career training for 110 IPS officers

Hyderabad, May 17: The mid-career training programme for 110 IPS officers in the rank of deputy inspector general of police and inspector general of police began in National Police Academy (NPA) here on Monday.

Officials said the eight-week-long programme is being conducted by the University of Cambridge in collaboration with the OP Jindal Global University.

“The first six weeks of the training programme will be held at the National Police Academy (NPA) which will be followed by two weeks at the University of Cambridge in United Kingdom,’’ a press release said.

Governor of Meghalaya RS Mooshahary, who inaugurated the programme, in his address urged the senior police officers to support their subordinates when they do good work but cautioned that it should not be blind support. “Corruption is adversely affecting the nation’s resources and demoralising the youth of the country,’’ he said.

He said that effective implementation of RTI Act, NDPS Act and Armed Forces Special Powers Act require excellent police leadership.

NPA director Rajiv Mathur thanked the Union government for sanctioning Rs 200 crore for further strengthening the learning infrastructure of the academy. “For the first time in the history of the academy, the government has sanctioned additional 274 posts which will change the face of the academy in the decade to come,’’ he said.

He said the participants must make best use of the training programme keeping in view the contemporary challenges in the wake of Tsunami in Japan, developments in Abbotabad and left wing extremism.
