Microsoft device head predicts single Windows version for all devices in future

Microsoft’s head of devices, Julie Larson-Green has predicted a future with just one Windows operating systems for all devices, unlike the current varied versions in existence.

The software giant currently ships Windows RT, Windows 8 and Windows Phone software for a variety of devices.

However, Larson-Green has hinted that the company is working to merge its core operating systems, adding that they will not have three versions in future, The Verge reports.

The device head’s thoughts echoes what Windows chief Terry Myerson had earlier said that the future of Windows RT is phones and the company is initially working towards building a single app store for Windows and Windows Phone.

Samsung is also working on tweaking its latest Windows 8.1 version and ship its upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update.

Larson-Green further pointed to wearable computing as an important phase for the company as Microsoft is rumoured to be testing a smartwatch with a 1.5-inch display and Surface connector, apart from a Google Glass-like eyewear, the report added. (ANI)
