‘Metro Rail is a threat to Hyderabad’s heritage’

Hyderabad, April 17: Describing the Hyderabad Metro Rail project as a `structural violation act and a threat to city’s heritage,’ Telangana Praja Front (TPF) president Gadar today demanded the state government to immediately stop the construction work of the project.

Speaking to newsmen here today, Gadar said they would launch an agitation to protest against the state government’s move.

“I request the L T management to stop the construction work forthwith as majority of residents of twin cities were against the project,” Gadar said.

He alleged the aim of the project is to grab 280 acres of prime land in the city. Heritage experts have been raising the issue of serious defacement of heritage structures by the project, Gadar said.

“When the Telangana movement is at a crucial stage, what is the need to implement the project in a hurry? he asked, suspecting, this is part of a conspiracy to separate the city from Telangana.

He appealed to all proT political parties, organisations and individuals to oppose the project.

M Vedakumar, TPF vice president, said that several doubts were being raised about the project which cannot be brushed aside. The project cost has already reached Rs 16,375 crore and it is likely to go up.

“The state government is trying to separate the twin cities from Telangana by undertaking various projects such as Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Metro Rail in the name of development works,” he alleged.

Human Rights Forum state president S Jeevan Kumar, CPI (MLNew Democracy) state committee member K Govardhan were present.
