Metro rail to start operating from Nov 28 on 30km Route

Hyderabad Metro Rail would create a record when it becomes operational on a 30-km route in the first phase from November 28.

Stating this wile replying to a question in the Telangana Assembly on Monday, IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao said since Hyderabad Metro Rail was one of the biggest in the world being taken up under the PPP system, the State government was keen on getting it inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 28. Already the State has requested the Prime Minister in this regard and a confirmation was being awaited from the PMO, he added.

KTR said Hyderabad Metro Rail would be creating a record because all the other metros in other parts country have begun operating only 11-km route whereas it would be a 30-km route in the capital city. As many as 57 trains are required for full operation and all of them are ready, he said, adding that the HMR will become fully operational on all the routes by the end of next year. KTR also said the HMR project was being built at an estimated cost Rs 3,000 crore and the Centre’s share was Rs 1,458 crore. He said the State government has already spent Rs 2,240 crore so far and the Centre has released Rs 958 crore. He refuted the claim of the Opposition that there was delay in the execution of the project.

As regards the second phase of the MMTS, KTR said the work was progressing rapidly for which an amount of Rs 817 crore have been allocated. He said Raidurgam station has been linked with Yadadri Station and was being modernized and developed. The MMTS service would be extended from Ghatkesar to Yadadri., he added. The government was also actively considering expansion of MMTS Phase III to the towns nearby Hyderabad. He said the stretch of 21-km between Secunderabad and Ghatkesar has been taken up in MMTS Phase II. It will be further extended by another 32 km from Ghatkesar to Raigir railway station, which will be developed as Yadadri station under Phase III. (NSS)
