Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister M Maheedhar Reddy today said that the on going Metro rail project will be operational by 2016. Addressing a press conference here, the Minister claimed that all the hurdles, including in land procurement, for the Rs 14,000 crore Metro Rail Project were cleared and the State Government has been extending full support to the L&T to ensure that it completes the project by 2016. As many as 60 pillars of the project have been grounded and works were in full swing on all corridors, the Minister informed and expressed hope that Hyderabad would get included into the list of world’s financial hubs after the completion of Rail Project and other projects being implemented by the GHMC, HMDA and other agencies. While referring to shortage of drinking water in the city, Mr Reddy said the Hyderabad city was presently facing a shortage of 120 million gallons per day. The State Government has taken some steps on war-footing basis to bring water to the city from Krishna Phase III and efforts are also on bring water from Godavari River to the twin cities, the Minister said.
