#MeToo: Fully support genuine cases, says ex-Assam CM

Guwahati: Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday voiced his support to the raging #MeToo movement in India, saying that he fully supports genuine cases.

The former chief minister further underlined that false allegations should not be levelled against anyone.

Speaking to ANI, Gogoi said, “This was happening first in America and now across the world. I totally support the genuine cases, but no false allegations should be levelled against anyone. Even I was accused by a woman once, but later it turned out to be fake and politically motivated.”

He added, “Whatever are truthful (in the cases), I support 100 per cent. But if there is any untruth, then it should be exposed.”

The MeToo movement gained momentum in India after Bollywood actor Tanushree Dutta accused Nata Patekar of allegedly misbehaving with her during a film shoot in 2008.

Since then, scores of women have come out to speak about their ordeals on social media, including actors, musicians, journalists, and politicians.
