MeT forecasts more heavy rain in Telangana

Hyderabad: The MeT department has predicted more rains today in the city which is reeling under the impact of heavy downpour, even as the civic body and other agencies are trying to restore normalcy in affected areas.

The relief personnel of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other government agencies are making efforts to drain out stagnated water and repair the badly damaged roads.

They were also trying to remove the slush accumulated on roads at a few places.

Though there was no heavy rainfall in the city yesterday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its weather warning for today, said, “Thunderstorm associated with heavy rain very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana.”

Three persons were killed in rain-related incidents in the city on Monday as different areas received around 10 cms of rainfall in a few hours.

The heavy rain led to flooding in several low-lying areas while water entered the houses in many places.

State Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao yesterday held a meeting with officials and directed that steps be taken to drain out water and clear choked drains.

He also asked the them to take up the repair of roads.

Rao told them to remain on alert for a couple of days in view of the forecast of heavy rains by the MeT department.

The GHMC advised citizens not to stay in dilapidated houses and to follow weather updates on IMD’s website.

The civic body also said that it had demolished 1,140 out of the 2,182 dilapidated structures in the last six months, and issued notices to owners and occupants of remaining buildings.

‘Caution notices’ have been pasted, asking occupants to vacate, on ‘most dangerous’ premises.
