New Delhi, August 13: How would it be to hit the disco this Independence Day and groove to the techno beats of a modern day ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti’?
One of the most popular patriotic songs of Bollywood cinema, actor Manoj Kumar’s ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti’ from the 1967 film ‘Upkaar’ has been remixed by composer Daboo Malik for Sohail Khan’s upcoming film ‘Kisaan’.
“The suggestion of the song had come from Salman Khan, even after the music of ‘Kisaan’ was released. When we showed the song to Manoj Kumar, he was very excited that it could be remixed in this way. We have taken his permission and also bought the rights from HMV,” said Sohail Khan, who is co-producing the film.
“We wanted to launch the music video ahead of Independence Day, as the song is aimed at infusing patriotism in the young generation. Fifty per cent of the royalties from the song will be donated to farmers,” Sohail said at a press conference in the national capital.
Indipop singer Daler Mehndi has lent his voice to the peppy number and also features in the music video, along with the film’s star cast Jackie Shroff, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan and Dia Mirza.
“This is a difficult song that they gave me. Mahendra Kapoor had already sung this classic in a high pitch, Daboo made it three notes higher,” said Mehndi, who hasn’t charged for the song.
