Mercury rises in JK, Kargil reels under intense cold

Srinagar, February 22: Minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir rose by a few notches thus providing much needed respite to people from cold conditions even as Kargil in Ladakh region was the coldest place with a low of minus 12 degrees Celsius.

Leh recorded a low of minus 10 deg C against minus 11 deg C yesterday, Met office said here.

In Kashmir valley, the minimum temperature rose providing much needed relief to the people reeling under intense cold conditions.

Srinagar recorded a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius against minus 0.6 deg C yesterday.

Qazigund and Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of 0.4 deg C and 2.1 deg C.

However, Pahalgam, a hill resort, and Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at minus 1.6 deg C and minus 0.2 deg C.
