New Delhi: German luxury car maker Mercedes Benz today launched its new SUV GLC priced up to Rs 50.9 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
The new model is available in both diesel and petrol options. The GLC 220d, powered by a 2143 cc diesel engine, is priced at Rs 50.7 lakh, while the GLC 300 driven by a 1991 cc petrol engine is tagged at Rs 50.9 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Pune).
“The GLC is a key product that fills the gap between the GLA and the GLE luxury SUVs,” Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Roland Folger told reporters here.
The model is being imported to India as a completely built unit.
Bullish on the SUV segment, he said: “We have seen a growing penchant for luxury SUVs amongst luxury car customers in India and the addition of the GLC is going to redefine the segment completely.”
The model is the fifth launch for the company which is slated to bring in 12 new products this year.
The GLC becomes the sixth SUV in the company’s portfolio in India, which ranges from the GLA to the AMG G63 which are priced in the range of Rs 31 lakh and Rs 2 crore, respectively.
Commenting on the market situation, Folger said while the company has managed to grow sales despite uncertainties over diesel vehicles, it could have been much better.
In 2015, the company posted record sales of 13,502 units in India as against 10,201 units in 2014, up by 32 per cent.
