The word ‘Aam’ is derived from Urdu word Aam(means common) and Adami (means human being) but the Aam Aadmi in AAP is not a common man and the party is not a comman man’s party in real terms.
This is because 42 out 67 newly elected MLAs are crorepatis whereas their average assets are Rs. 6.29 crores. This indicates that an Aam Aadmi party does not necessarily a poor man’s party.
This analysis was done by the Delhi Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) which have been crusading for electoral reforms.
Both the NGOs have analyzed the criminal background, education, financial, gender and other facts of MLAs based on the self-sworn affidavits presented by these newly members.
Association for Democratic Reforms on Wednesday while releasing its analytical report said that out of the 70 newly elected MLAs, 44 (63%) are crorepatis.
In 2013 Delhi Assembly election, out of the 70, 51 (73%) MLAs were crorepatis and in the 2008 Delhi Assembly elections, 47 (69%) out of 68 MLAs analyzed were crorepatis.
