Mehbooba condemns ‘victimisation’ of families of terrorists, security forces

Srinagar: Condemning terrorists and security forces reportedly victimising each other’s families, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said that it marked a new low in the existing situation of the state.

Expressing anguish over reported cases of abduction, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba tweeted, “Militants and forces victimising each other’s families is highly condemnable and marks a new low in our situation. Families shouldn’t become casualties and made to suffer for something they have little control over.”

The Jammu and Kashmir police are yet to confirm the reported abductions. Speaking to ANI, the state police said that they are ascertaining details and circumstances of media reports that terrorists have abducted families of policemen from various locations in south Kashmir last night.

“Some incidents of abduction have come to the notice of police in south Kashmir. We are ascertaining details and circumstances. In due course, it shall be placed in public domain,” the state police said.

Reacting to a report of abduction from Ganderbal, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Ganderbal K Poswal denied any such incident, saying, “No such incident has taken place in Ganderbal. We have verified from the ground and I myself have done an inspection this morning, everything is absolutely normal.”
There are reports doing rounds since Thursday night that terrorists have abducted families of policemen in South Kashmir.
