Women auto-driver who aspires to become an IAS officer

Yellamma, a 22-year-old single mother earns her living from driving an autorickshaw, but not letting the difficulties to become a barrier in the way of success, she aspires to become an IAS officer.

This woman autorickshaw driver not only battles against the traffic jams of Bengaluru but has to faces hostility from her male colleagues every day.

“For being a women many Autorickshaw owners refused to rent a vehicle, finally a mechanic agreed to rent me an auto for Rs 130 a day,” says Yellamma.

According to reports Yellamma was forced to marry a flower decorator at the age of 18. Though her husband is no longer with her, she chooses not to depend on relatives for financial support, and decided to earn her money by her own herself.

However, her will to succeed and the support of her customers gives this 22-year-old the additional grit to keep going.

Yellamma earns about Rs 700-800 every day by working 14 hours a day (from 6 am to 8 pm). Not pushing her dreams back, in her spare time Yellamma reads whatever material she finds. Her ultimate goal is not only to crack the civil services exam, but also to help women achieve their goals.
