Aurangabad: Shaikh Salman Patel, a son of a farmer is an inspiration for all poor and rural background UPSC aspirants.
Hailing from a farmer’s family in Mali village of Aurangabad’s Maharashtra Marathwada region, Salman’s success at UPSC Civil Services proves that a candidate from rural background also can make it be in the list of UPSC.
A dedicated, hard-working, sincere and focused on studies since childhood, Salman cracked the 2017 UPSC Civil Services and secures 339th rank in his 4th attempt.
However, the journey to crack the examination was not easy for him.
Speaking to ummid.com about how challenging the entire journey was, Salman said, “My father could not study much because of poverty. But he wanted all of us to study higher and higher. My elder sister studied till 12th, elder brother is a Computer Science graduate and my younger brother is in 8th. Despite a meager earning, my father made it sure that our study is not suffered.”
Salman has completed his schooling from Jamia Umar bin Khattab in Kunjkheda. Later on, he shifted to Aurangabad and did his graduation. He completed M.Sc. Chemistry from Maulana Azad College Aurangabad.
After cracking the coveted exams on Friday, not only Salman but the entire village is in celebration mode as if his entire village has passed.
“My village is where people can’t even dream of graduating their children. But, today someone from their own soil has cracked UPSC Civil Services Exams – one of the most difficult and coveted exams in India. It’s a very big thing for them”, Salman said.
“Everyone in the village therefore is celebrating ever since the news came that I have cracked the UPSC Civil Services exams”, he added.
It is the appreciable thing that he set an example to village people who were looking at him as a role model.
Salman said, “There are about 100 children, including my own brother, in my village. They have started looking in me a role model. It is hence my duty to make sure that these little dreamers become in their life what they dream to be”, he said.
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday announced the result of the Civil Services examinations, held in October 2017. Hyderabad’s Anudeep Durishetty topped while Haryana’s Anu Kumari secured the second rank.
