Chandigarh: Billionaire Prakash Rana has won Joginder Nagar of Mandi district as an independent, in Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, with a margin of nearly 5000 votes.
Rana has a diamond business in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and is the owner of several companies. He has handed over his business to his sons and has come all the way from Saudi Arabia to serve the people of Himachal Pradesh. He got 22887 votes while BJP candidate Gulab Singh got 18731 votes. Prakash Rana arrives at his village in helicopter. He has made a helipad outside his house.
In the affidavit he has mentioned his family property as 3 billion 32 crore. According to him he has come into politics to fulfill his late father’s wish who wanted him to serve people as politician.
Since he was not given party ticket by any of the parties, he entered into the fray as an independent and won the election.
Prakash Rana has 47 bank accounts and 13 lakh insurance policies worth 2.65 crore.
