Meenakshi Lekhi takes on Congress over 1984 anti-Sikh riots

New Delhi, Apr 11 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi on Thursday accused the Congress Party of being responsible for 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

“I can only say that Congress party was responsible for genocide, which happened during 1984. It was a genocide of Sikhs in this country. 3,500 Sikhs alone got killed in Delhi and the number far exceeded across the country,” she said.

“Whenever Congress is in power riots happened, they insight violence and then they see to it that people who are responsible don”t even get punished. This is only an example while these things happened in Delhi, people responsible made ministers and continue to be ministers,” she added.

Her reactions comes a day after Delhi Court set aside the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) closure report on Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, and ordered the reopening of the case against him in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The CBI had earlier given a clean chit to Tytler in 2007 and in 2009 claiming there was no evidence against him.

However, challenging the closure report filed by the CBI in 2009, Lakhwinder Kaur, whose husband was killed in the riots, argued that the investigating agency had not recorded the testimonies of two key eyewitnesses who have since the riots moved to the United States.
