Medicines stolen from Telangana sold in Andhra

For most poor men and women, dying at the hospitals due to lack of medicines is nothing new. Accessing basic medicines has been a challenge for poor people. Going to hospitals is a big decision as people do not expect to find medicines most of the time. Half the times most of the shelves at public hospitals are empty and even the most basic drugs for treating common diseases are scarce.

Media, police and officials of AP Drug Control Board unearthed a a drug-theft racket and arrested Prabhu and K Ramaiah. Y Prabhu works as a pharmacist at Govt. Malkajgiri hospital. There is a central drug store at Shivrampally from where expensive medicines especially antibiotics such as amoxicillin, and injections are supplied to government hospitals at Hyderabad, Secunderabad and at outskirts, which are given to poor patients free of cost.

With the arrest of Y Prabhu and K Ramaiah, it was revealed that medicines worth lakhs of rupees are supplied to private hospitals at various places of the state such as Guntur every month, instead of supplying them to government hospitals.
