Hyderabad: Press and journalists have the responsibility to uphold freedom of the press. But in the present scenario, the freedom of the press is facing threat by the capitalists. Imminent senior journalist Mr Syed Khaled Husain in an exclusive talk with Siasat Daily said that due to the rising domination of the capitalists, media institutions are deviating from their goal. He said in the democratic countries as well, journalists have become helpless and their freedom seems to be at stake.
Mr Syed Khaled Husain said it’s wrong to count media institutions run by the political parties among free media. Because when a media organisation belongs to a particular party, it cannot be considered as free. It is more appropriate to label it as the mouthpiece of that particular party. As a mouthpiece lacks the basic element of freedom of the press, hence it should not be listed in the free press institutions.
Mr Khaled who has been associated with Times of India, POT, State Times, Khaleej Times, Today Newspaper Singapore and several other media organizations, said that free press is mostly witnessed in US and UK where journalists render their responsibilities on the basis of their values and principles. But today the situation is somewhat changing in US. The present government is at war with journalism.
