Puducherry: Lt Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi today said media is a “partner in administration and governance besides being the eyes and ears of the society” and underscored the need for achieving “greater visibility” of the Union Territory in the “national media”.
Addressing mediapersons at Raj Nivas here, Bedi said the press has a “crucial role to play” and exhorted them to be “more responsible in their reporting.”
She said the development of Puducherry is the common goal of the administrative machinery, and the elected government and the Lt Governor were working in tandem to reach the goal.
Bedi also said the Union Territory should develop into an IT hub, on par with Bengaluru and the tourism sector be strengthened on the lines of Goa.
Much more needed to be done to obtain more assistance from the Centre, she said, adding, “Better performance would ensure more resources for Puducherry.”
Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said, a coordinated functioning of all departments is the need of the hour and the media can act as a bridge between the people and government and provide feedback on various aspects of developmental activities.
