MCD yet to take final view on new rickshaw policy

New Delhi, February 17: With the Delhi High Court lifting restrictions on the number of cycle rickshaws plying in the city, the MCD is yet to take a final view on its future steps in regard to a new policy on the eco-friendly vehicles.

The issue was raised at a meeting of the Standing Committee by Leader of Opposition J K Sharma who claimed that the earlier policy of limiting the number of licences at 99,000 was brought in a haste.

“We should encourage the usage of rickshaws by laying separate tracks and promoting them,” he said.

Chairman of Standing Committee R K Singhal said the MCD is yet to study the court ruling and will take a decision only after looking into all aspects of the order.

Mayor Kanwar Sain had earlier said that the MCD will approach the Supreme Court.
