New Delhi, October 15: The legislative wing of the MCD today requested the Municipal Commissioner to defer by a month the plan to close down the slaughterhouse at Idgah in view of Id-ud Zuha in November.
The request was made by Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya to MCD Commissioner K S Mehra.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has constructed a state-of-the-art slaughterhouse at Ghazipur. Under a Supreme Court order, it will have to close down the existing abattoir at Idgah and shift the operations to Ghazipur.
However, though the ‘jhatka’ and buffalo sections of the Idgah slaughterhouse have already been shifted, the ‘halal’ section was yet to be closed due to opposition from a section of meat sellers.
The civic body had in a public notice last week announced that the ‘halal’ section will be closed down on October 21.
Id-ud Zuha or baqr-Id is falling on November 28 and the legislative wing wants that the shifting date be deferred till then.
