MCD gets Rs 143 cr from Delhi govt

New Delhi, April 05: The Delhi government has given Rs 143 crore to the MCD for municipal reforms, a move the civic body today described as an acknowledgement of its efforts to improve governance and accountability.

Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya and Chairman of Standing Committee Yogender Chandolia told a press conference that the MCD has received the money as 1.5 per cent share of the global share out of 5.5 per cent as recommended by the Third Finance Commission. Global share is given to local bodies out of the tax revenue for carrying out municipal reforms.

The issue has been a matter of contention between MCD and Delhi government for long. “Delhi government has been denying us 1.5 per cent share for long and only giving 4 per cent. Now they have released the 1.
