MCA student commits suicide, parents allege ragging

Warrangal, June 09: Dande Devender Kumar (22), an MCA second- year student of Vasavi College of Engineering in Hyderabad, committed suicide allegedly due to ragging by his seniors. He put his head under a running train at Dharamaram on Sunday.

Police, who found his body on the railway track, established his identity with the help of an identity card recovered from his pocket.

Hailing from Choppadandi village in Karimnagar, Kumar left for Hyderabad on June 3 stating that he had to attend exams from June 9.

Kumar’s parents, Sankaraiah and Sattema, put the blame for their son’s death squarely on the shoulders of his seniors and the college management. According to them, Kumar’s seniors had been harassing him for the past one year. “We complained to the college management not once or twice but thrice and even gave them names of Kumar’s torturers,” they said and demanded action against both the college authorities and the students responsible for their son’s death.

Kumar was the younger son of Sankaraiah, a weaver. His eldest son Madhusudan is also a weaver. Speaking to Express, Madhusudan said he had even gone to Hyderabad to talk to the students harassing his brother. He said they didn’t lodge a police complaint keeping the future of the students in mind.
