MBT Demands high level inquiry by NIA in arrest of Vijay Kumar Soni

The Majlis Bachao Tahreek (MBT) alleged that there could be a larger conspiracy behind the involvement of Vijay Kumar Soni, who was arrested on 6th Dec 2013 for creating communal disturbance near Mecca Masjid. MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan (Corporator) wondered as to why it took three days for the Hyderabad City Police to take Vijay Kumar Soni into custody for questioning. He was caught by the local Muslim youth after they found him indulging in stone pelting on both the police personnel and worshipers after Friday prayers at Mecca Masjid on 6th Dec 2013. Initially, the suspect was let free by some officials and it was only after MBT pressurized the top officials that Vijay Kumar was taken into custody for further questioning.

The MBT leader said that the police need to find out whether Vijay Kumar Soni belong to the Sleeper Cells of Right-Wing Extremists who conducted bomb blast at Mecca Masjid ion 17th May 2007 and also at other places across the country. He said the presence of Vijay Kumar Soni by wearing a pendant bearing an Islamic inscription and a black shirt on a Black Day (Babri Masjid Anniversary Day) clearly indicates that he wanted to mingle among the worshipers to create disturbance or may be perform a bigger act of terror. Fortunately, he was caught by local Muslim youth before he could execute his plans. Some police sources said that Vijay Kumar Soni was an informant. “When police have Muslim officials in the Special Branch to keep an eye on Friday prayers, then why did the police sent Soni to Mecca Masjid to film the proceedings?” he asked. While some police officers denied Vijay Kumar being an informant, a few others have confirmed that he was indeed sent into the mosque.

Amjed Ullah Khan demanded that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy should intervene into the issue and order a CBI or NIA probe into the incident. If Vijay Kumar Soni is associated with any of the Right-Wing extremist’s sleeper cells, then his presence in Mecca Masjid on a sensitive day like December 6, the anniversary of demolition of Babri Masjid, is a highly sensitive issue and should not be taken lightly. Further, it needs to be probed whether Vijay Kumar Soni had any other accomplices in the mosque premises on Mecca Masjid. The MBT leader said that the arrest of Vijay Kumar Soni has proved that it were some vested or in fact the RSS-backed Right Wing extremists who instigated violence like stone pelting near Mecca Masjid and other places of worship to defame the Muslim youth. He recalled that immediately after the Mecca Masjid blast engineered by a Hindu Terror outfit, there were some protests outside Mecca Masjid. Some unidentified youth pelted stones at the police and taking that as an excuse, police open fired killing several Muslim youth. He said Vijay Kumar Soni and his accomplices could be involved in previous cases of stone pelting and other offenses near Mecca Masjid and other places.
